- Life Group Discussion Guide -

OPEN:

1. Using your own words and thoughts, how would you describe to a “non-believer” what it means to “be” the church?

2. If you were using “paints and canvass” and had to do a visual representation of what it means to “be” the church-what picture would you paint?

3. In a predominantly “unbelieving world” what words do you think would be used to describe their view of the church? What picture might they paint?

DIG:

1. In what ways might our personal concepts of what it means to “be” the church actually hinder us from “being” the church?

2. As you study the teaching of Jesus in the Gospels and the teaching in Acts 1-4 – How would you describe what it means to be the church in its purest and simplest form?

a. How important would you consider it to maintain a view of the church in it’s “purest and simplest” form?

b. Could such an approach cause us as Christians to be more focused? If yes, How?

3. How can the church “assembled” and the church “dispersed” into the world find the proper balance in what it means to “be” the church?

What lessons can both concepts teach us?

Reflect / Apply:

If you have a red-letter addition of the New Testament (words) of Jesus, skim one of the Gospel accounts of Jesus teachings:

What 5 areas stand out to you?

(If not a red letter edition skim Matthew 5-13; or John 13-17 what stands out?

How important is it to you in “being” the church to be actively living these things out in our lives?
