| [SinglePic not found] | The motorcycle enthusiasts had been looking forward to the first “motorcycle Sunday” event. They had a nice ride planned and lunch reservations were made. They were looking forward to an uplifting morning of worship followed by a relaxing ride filled with fun and fellowship. |
Then the morning dawned very overcast. The weather reports looked more bleak than promising, and there was some speculation about how many would show up ready for the ride.
However, everyone who had planned to go decided to proceed with faith and were rewarded with beautiful weather and a very enthusiastic send off from their brothers and sisters. I’m not sure who got the biggest kick out of it—the participants or the supportive crowd who flagged them off with zeal and great flair.
It is always a joy to spend time with like-minded people. The better we come to know one another the more we appreciate our brothers and sisters in Christ, and the more joyful our Christian walk becomes.
One way to draw closer to God is to draw closer to his family. The more we search for new ways to interact with one another, and to become more closely involved with each other, the closer we will become to being the family that God intended his children to be.
What do the people at the end of your pew do for fun? Do they garden, read books, or go camping? Maybe s/he is an artist, or maybe they ride motorcycles. You’ll never know if you just smile and nod and rush out the door. Several members here are into physical fitness. In fact, we have a group that has been training for an upcoming triathlon. (Watch for that article in the future.)
If you’re feeling isolated find ways to get more involved. Join a new bible study group. Attend one of the life groups. Become active in some of the mission work, or even begin one of your own. Like all families, God’s family is full of variety. In a group as large as ours you’re bound to find someone with common interests.
God has provided for our every need, (1 Tim.6:17), even our need for companionship. Matthew 7:7 says “Ask and it will be given you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
